Lets Play City Everything

This a short film made up of all the photos I took during the 11 days of Lets Play City at Capital E. The final film will take a week or so to finish, but this shows what you can do with some old cardboard, lots of kids and a big dollop of creativity. Thank you to all those who participated in Lets Play City.

New Developments in the City

The residents of our city now have access to a wonderful new tennis facility, pet owners should have a look at Pet Shop Towers the latest experience for the pampered pooch and we certainly should not forget our Fairy Tale friends, they can now pop into Rapunzel's Castle for a chat.

Welcome To Our City

We have only been building our city for four days and it is already got a wonderful array of buildings, parks, a dinosaur museum, art museum and a hover bus. Where else in the world has a hover bus? I can't think of anywhere. I will carry on adding photographs as the city continues to grow so keep checking back. Also someone told me about the film I posted below about a young boy and his wonderful cardboard arcade, as with the young people at Capital E, it is their creativity and imagination which shows through, you only have to let them loose in a room with a pile of cardboard boxes and then stand back and see what they produce.

City Gallery 'The Obstinate Object'

I was looking around the City Gallery in Wellington and came across some of Yuk King Tan's new work. It incorporates both a city, in this case Hong Kong and cardboard. So if you are coming along to Lets Play City at the Carnival of Creativeness, you can pop in to the City Gallery to her work, it is in the cinema area. There is also a another piece of work upstairs made out of cardboard, I am not sure if it is by Yuk King Tan or someone else, but have a look. Below is a short interview with Yuk King Tan and there is a short clip in it of her work 'Scavenger'.

Instructables

Instructables is a great site, not just for cardboard ideas, but for anyone who likes to make things, especially a tank for your kitten

Bloxes

This structure is made of Bloxes, what are bloxes I here you ask? 

"Bloxes are building blocks made of interlocking pieces of corrugated cardboard, folded together. Their unique shape and structure make them exceptionally strong and lightweight—you could build yourself a platform to stand on, and then pick it up and move it wherever you need to."

I am not promoting or endorsing these different products, they are just some examples of ways to do things with cardboard. There are many ways that do not need anything more than a slot cut into it and joined to another box.

Makedo

Makedo is a system which allows you to join all sorts of things together, including cardboard whoopee! I will try to get hold of some to try out for the Carnival of Creativeness.
If you look at Makedo's website gallery of structures, there are loads more ideas to see.

Cardboard Animation

Another great use of cardboard this time from Sjors Vervoort. If we have time at Capital E during the two weeks we will have a go at animating parts of our city.

Laser Cut Cardboard

This work by Jared Tarbell, shows laser cut cardboard, which is then made into cubes and then can be turned into what ever you want.

Cardboard Slots

This shows how slots can be used to join pieces of cardboard together to make complex shapes.
